[Opinions] Vicky
Replies
Feels a bit middle aged to me, though I'm not hugely into Tori either. Victoria I like in full usually and more often as a middle so it doesn't get butchered. I actually wanted to use it at one point and opt for the nn Tora idea. But this was when I was very young and unaware of the religious text, making it similar to naming your child Bible.

By the way, Tory, Tori etc is the nn and usual headline version of Conservative, as in the Conservative Party, currently in government. So in the UK I'd be amazed to meet a Victoria who was known as Tory. It's just not an option!
It's a little awkward/funny/noticeable in the US occasionally. Like studying Revolutionary War in school (Tories were anti-independence) or if you watch BBC or if you happen to know any British people who would think nothing of saying "I would never date a Tory"...though I'd still prefer it to Vicky (possibly partly because Vicky seems decidedly more British like Rupert or Alfie or something).

I can't stand being called it, but it's fine for other people.
It's sharp....and less dated than it used to be although it does have a vibe like Ricky, Micky, Nikki and cliquey to me still...ice queen + hick + mobster's wife (about like a feminine Vincent "Vinnie"). Or potentially, it could seem kind of like a friendlier or more down-to-earth Vivian (I like Vivian, but it seems cold to me sometimes). Just depends on the person.
I'd skip the c spellings and go for Vikki (would probably prefer Vika, although it's not the same).

I much prefer the Vicki spelling, but I like the name a lot overall. Much brighter and spunkier than Victoria and not as "millennial" as Tori. I'd use Vicki on its own.
A good friend of mine in the UK is Vickie Patricia. Her parents had agreed on Vickie, rather than Victoria, but didn't discuss the spelling; when her father registered her birth, he gave Vickie as the spelling, which his wife never liked: presumably she would have preferred Vicky. (Her mn is because she was born on St Patrick's Day. Makes it easy to remember her birthday.)
I prefer Vickie. Vicky looks more like an adjective than a name, and Vicki looks unbalanced.

I think it's okay for nickname of Victoria. Then I don't like as a full name because it seems obnoxious, smug, vain, cold and arrogant girl.
