I find the spelling off-putting. Anyone who knows and chooses a German name can surely cope with the German pronunciation of W, as opposed to V, and German-origin names are well used and familiar where I live; Scandinavian/Baltic names are not. So, I'd assume a kre8iv spelling, not a legitimate borrowing.

I like Wilhelm a lot: in general, I enjoy German names. I prefer Ernst to Ernest, for instance. But in my own life I'd choose the English versions.
