[Opinions] Maricel & Marigold
I know Marisol seems to be a board favorite, but what do you think of Maricel? Also, what are your thoughts on Marigold? What about the potential nickname Goldie?

I haven't noticed Marisol mentioned much here? But I was thinking about it a few days ago because I came across a Marisal. Maricel is ok but mainly reminds me of Marcel...the sound is similar to Marisol, but the vibe is pretty different to me. I do like Maris and Marisela a lot...I used to like Marigold as a MN for most things (thinking it brightened them) but now I feel like it's too happy-go-lucky. Cute for other people but not quite my style, similar to how I feel about Daisy, though Marigold also seems a bit more snobby/grand to me like Margot or Magnolia would. Either that or it's like an image cross of Golda and Marianne; I think of a 70s color palette. Also I feel like it has religious/cultural/spiritual undertones that I don't connect with.

I kind of go months at a time without being active here but I’d say every time I’ve seen Marisol asked about here it’s always received widespread positivity. I also see it on a lot of lists. :)

Where I live, Marisol doesn't happen; I've never seen Maricel either. I love Mary and Marianne, but that's where it ends for me.Marigold is just another flower name that I don't enjoy on a human. Goldie is awful. Not even Goldie Hawn could make me warm up to it.

Huh, I've never heard Maricel before, that I recall. Maybe Marisela. The other closest I can think of is Maristela. I dont like the way it looks, honestly.Marigold is best as middle name, imo.Anyways what's all this talk about using it? You can like a name without using it lol.

Exactly! I’m not hispanic either, but that doesn’t stop me from loving many hispanic names ❥

I love Marigold nn Goldie. I might use it to honour a Mary. My SO isn't keen on it though. Goldie sounds very retro chic. I like Marisol, but I don't think I'd ever use it because I'm not Spanish-speaking. Maricel is ok. I don't dislike it, but don't really like it either. It's the -cel part. I also don't really care for Marcel or Marcelle.

Marigold is my favorite of those. I prefer NN Mari over Goldie. My great grandma was a Goldie and she hated it. She was named by a 4 year old cousin that her mom let pick and she resented that into her 90s lol. I also like Marisol. WB Marcelle? I like that one too

I tend to prefer Marisol but I like Maricel; I've actually known more who used Maricel than Marisol. (That said, as a white person of Nordic descent I think it would problematic for me to use a name like this.)Marigold, though, is not a name I think could be usable in any context, except possibly for a pet. Perhaps it's a double standard for me to like Lily and not think Marigold is usable, but I feel much the same way about Marigold. I suppose it's not as bad as naming someone Tulip or Orchid.
