[Opinions] Lauma
My cousin back in IL just posted a pic with friend who apparently has this name. No idea how it's said, but WDYT?I like the look of Lauma but if it's said like llama... eh.

I hate to provide essentially the same feedback here as everyone else, but my immediate inclination is to think of llamas.A secondary inclination would be closer to Laura, but I don't think of it as particularly pretty.

I don’t particularly care for it because it reminds me of Llamas.

If we are talking about the Latvian name, it's pronounced [ˈlau.ma]. Going by this site's pronunciation key, this roughly translates to LOW-ma.
The name has an interesting background https://www.britannica.com/topic/lauma, but I greatly prefer Laima.Any chance you could ask your cousin if this is indeed the Latvian name?

Eh, I'd feel weird asking after it. It's a cousin I don't talk to regularly so it'd be super random.

All I can think about are these guys: Llamas-Vernagt-Stausee-Italy Llamas. The animals in petting zoos that like the spit, even when unprovoked. I remember avoiding these animals like a plague when I was a kid.

My best guess is a merger between Laura and Mary, probably pronounced LAUmuh. I love both Laura and Mary, together and separately, but Lauma really does not appeal. And it wouldn't appeal, if it turns out to have nothing to do with Laura and Mary. It looks limp and flabby and suitable, if anything, for MAgical LAUndry soap, or similar.
