Okay as a middle name, but as a first name it seems incomplete and like it should be short for something: Louise, Louisa, Luna, Luisa, Luanne, Marylou, Louella, Lucia, Lucille, Lucinda, Lumi, Lupita, etc. There are so many options.

Maybe as a seldom nickname, but not for an actual name. I don't think that would even work for a boy

Only as a nickname.

I think it can work as a stand-alone name but people will always ask what it's short for. Heidi Klum has a daughter named Lou Sulola Samuel and my great grandmother was LouAnna. I like that it's short and friendly sounding.

I actually quite like Lou on a girl. Just Lou? Not really. But it’s a nice unisex name! I’d use it for Lovisa or Louise / Louisa.Lou Bellerose
Lou Gabrielle
Lou Annelise
Lou Maëlle
Lou Joelle

Fine as a nickname, but incomplete on its own.

One of my best friends is a Lou! Because of her I love the name, she's an excellent person. Technically she's a Louise. Just-Lou is a fine name, although I would assume it's short for something.

My niece Louanne is mostly known as Lou. Both names suit her, but Lou will never be anything other than a nickname in our family.

I like it short for Lucy, Lucia, Luciana or Louisa, Louise etc. By itself, it’s a bit nicknamey.

Makes me think of a lavatory.

It's my favorite name for a girl! Just Lou is perfect.

Only as a nickname for Lucy, Lucia, or Louise. I have a niece named Lucia and we call her Lou.
Honestly I think it’s too childish for both genders. Go with any of those 3 if you want to call her Lou.
