Or, indeed, Mathilde! I prefer Matilda, nn Tilda. I had a colleague who was just Tilda, a very pleasant woman and a good teacher of high-school Maths. So that is the nn form I'd use. I wouldn't use Matty - don't like the sound, and anyway my wonderful Matilda dog, named by the rescue centre, was known to us as Matt the Mutt.Matilda Caroline
