With the French pronunciation, unless one is a Catholic, it's just another geographical name. If one is Catholic, presumably it gets the French pronunciation. And that's fine. But taking a name that is not only in a foreign language but also has remarkable amounts of religious significance and then using a somewhat English pronunciation seems disrespectful to me, like cultural appropriation without regard to the culture. And I'm neither French nor Catholic.

It's also a Spanish name.Lourdes isn't only used by the French, it's also used among Spanish-speakers. I've met a Lourdes only once, but she was an older Hispanic woman and said her name more like LOR-dhehs.In the case of singer Madonna's daughter Lourdes, I believe her father is Hispanic as well.

It’s classified as Spanish here, never heard anyone from French speaking context using the name. I can’t imagine an Italian, even an extremely devout one, with the name, it would be considered ridiculous. So Lourdes might be of French and Catholic derivation but it’s very Hispanic Catholic.

Not so much Spanish as Catholic, surely? It's a French place name, after all.

I really like it! It looks so aesthetic.

I actually enjoy Lourdes a lot, and I pronounce it LOOR-dis. The name doesn't get a lot of love here.Magdalena Lourdes is the first combo I can think of.

The sound isn't very appealing, and it's very Catholic, Hispanic Catholic, specifically. It seems quite dated even in that context.

This. It’s one of those names that sound odd outside of a specific demographic.
