I think Gertie is adorable, but I'm not really a fan of Gertrude. I just don't like the sound.

I like it as a GP. I wouldn't really use it or want to be called it, or have a name that would lead to that nickname, but just have very fond childhood memories of my uncle's dog Gertie, so that's my association. I think it's fine on a dog.

I hate Gertrude, I guess Gertrude is ok considering that,

I'm sure nobody here is surprised to hear that I love Gertie. Gertie is SO cute. I know that liking ugly names is my thing, but for a long time I was neutral on Gertrude. But I've really been coming around to it because I've realized I like both Gertie and Trudy. Normally it makes me sad when my accent softens the T in a name to a D, but "Gerdie" is still super adorable for me. To this day it still shocks me that the name of the little girl in E.T. is Gertie. It's so unexpected! I've always wondered why they picked that name. Surely even in the late 70s Gertrude was seen as unfashionable.

It has a harsh sound and reminds me of "girdle". I think Trudie/Trudy is a cuter nickname for Gertrude.

For a Gertrude, I prefer the nickname Trudi. Gertie just sounds unappealing and too old-fashioned to me.

I don't like it. It sounds very harsh.
