I think Heather is a pretty name and has the potential to make a comeback. Fern I never liked very much but there are worse plant names. They work together well as sister however.

I love Heather. Fern doesn't appeal, but it's OK as a nn for Fernanda. As a set, it's too themed for me.

Too themey for my taste, but it somehow works. Heather makes Fern seem less self-consciously pastoral, and Fern makes Heather seem more naturey.

I like Heather but not Fern

I like them very much. They both remind me of a mournful woman wrapped in woollen blankets while walking the moors, brooding.
