[Opinions] Hades
Just saw this as the name of a (real) baby on one of my FB groups. I'm surprised that I actually kinda like it, I never thought much about Hades as a name for an actual person. Wdyt of Hades?

It's kinda interesting, at least it sounds much better than the Roman adaptation and Hades in Greek mythology didn't choose to be the God of death I think, but he's definitely done awful things but I guess Zeus did too. Sounds like the name of a scary Mastiff dog that's actually really sweet

I actually kind of like it too. I think it has quite a trendy sound. No doubt a polarising character to name a child after though.

Yeah I thought it sounded kind of trendy too, when I suddenly saw it on a real person! It somehow seemed to fit in with the Haley/Hayden/Aiden evolution?? I can't really explain it. The baby's parents seem like hard-rock types so I wouldn't be surprised if they picked it partly because it is so polarising and extreme.

Awful. I love Greek Mythology but most of those names don’t belong on real people, Hades being one of them.

I like Hades as a god but it’s a silly name. He’s not a bad guy like some people think, but the name is still heavily associated with death. It’s like a less extreme version of naming your kid Lucifer.

There's no excuse for that. You can't even spin it by saying "Well, if you don't think about the mythology association..." because the mythological association is *all* there is to associate with Hades.

It’s terrible. Why would you name a child for the god of the underworld, plus it’s old fashioned slang for “hell.”

I’m happy for the parents! Though, that name? I’m going to blatantly honest with you…yeah, no.

Um it’s not… terrible? It has this chilly and cool sound it. But I can’t say I like it, it’s just okay. Way too much for me, even as a person to likes Zeus.

At least there's a baby, and congrats to his parents.Their affectations, and the ghoulish inauspiciousness of it, aside ... I don't like the sound of it. It reminds me a bit of the word hate. Maybe if he has a surname that makes it a pun. Hades Ganahaight. Hades Kulbananas. Hades Arnt-Mein. Hades Nutt.

Hades has grown on me and it's now a guilty pleasure.
I blame all the Hades/Persephone retellings I'd read.
It's a strong sounding name.
