Quite simply, it's a spelling error. Giselle, two syllables, is French; Gisela, three syllables, is German. And I prefer the German version, but there's nothing to be gained by inserting an extra L. It looks as if it should be pronounced giZELa.

Not a spelling error. It is spelled Gisella in Italian.
