[Opinions] Porcelain (For a female superhero)
Is Porcelain a good superhero name?
It’s for an MCU/Avengers fanfic.
Not sure yet what her real name is going to be. Probably an alliterative name like Katherine King or Sarah Snyder or something. There’s a lot of those in the Marvel comics.
She doesn’t have any superpowers, but she’s a trained fighter similar to Black Widow.
She’s very attractive, has pale blonde hair that almost looks white, bright blue eyes & pale skin. She’s been told that she looks like a porcelain doll, hence the name.

I think it works well.
So, personally, porcelain is slang for toilet where I live. In particular, the idiom "kiss the porcelain" means vomiting into a toilet. So, I don't really like it as a name for a superhero because it makes me think of toilets.
It has this macabre attribute to it, and it's a pretty word in general. I like it a lot. But I'm a bit confused about the comments saying it sounds too 'weak' and that it should be more strong-sounding, which to me is stupid. Superhero names aren't about sounding 'invincible' or 'striking fear in the hearts of your enemies', it's just about being catchy. Robin's superhero name is literally a small bird, it's not supposed to be big or larger than life. The Flash, Iron Man, Spider-man, Black Canary, Rocket Raccoon, they're all names that aren't especially confident or foreboding in the slightest, but they're memorable, and that's all there is to it. It really depends on the intention of the superhero/vigilante you're talking about. Though I do admit there are names that are undeniably supposed to sound strong or scary, i.e. Daredevil, Ghost Rider, The Punisher, Conan the Barbarian, Blade, Beast, any of those, it really depends on what kind of character you want to name. Also, the name porcelain sounds really cool??? and scary??? it gives the image of a creepy possessed doll, or an elegant piece of dinnerware, I wouldn't be holed up in the idea of the literal translation. Even when superhero names don't fit the general theme of the superhero themselves, we still find a way to make it sound more important. Batman, Superman, Dr. Strange, Catwoman, they all sound dumb with no context, but the characters grew into it, and it doesn't stand out anymore. Anyway, I think it sounds awesome, keep it.
You're right of course, that a super's name doesn't need to sound tough!
I think China Doll would be pretty good. So good, that ... *checking* ... yep it's already been used.
What about Parian, like Parian marble, parian doll

I realize this is subjective, but The Flash, Iron Man, Spider-man, and Black Canary all DO seem confident and/or foreboding to me! The only one which seems silly of those you mentioned is Rocket Raccoon. :)
Nah, I don't think so. The 'fragility' thing would not ruin it IMO, I think the irony would work, but it's just too focused on her literal personal appearance and "porcelain skin" is a cliche. Like ... Black Widow isn't black ...?
Also porcelain refers to a toilet sometimes, so it could be a little funny.

Is her superpower breaking into pieces? Like Roxstar said it isn't very strong
Porcelain just doesn't sound like a fighter's alter-ego name or nickname. Yes, it describes her deceptively doll-like look, but number one, it's not very catchy, and two, it calls to mind fragile things, and kind of draws more attention to her appearance. Even China Doll would be a better nn, it's catchier.
To echo clevelandkentevans, Porcelain sounds fragile.

Seems like a rather "breakable" name for a superhero to me, but then again I'm not a fan of superhero stories.
