I knew it as a place name long before I heard it as a human name, so that's my main association and why I'd rather use Amalia, which I do somewhat like...it seems brighter than Amelia does to me.

I associate Southern Gothic type energy with the place name. Beyond that, Amelia Earhart is the famous person I associate and while she gets portrayed as capable and adventurous, her disappearance seems mysterious and sad.
