The word does sound like it could be a name ... in English at least.
At least, to those of us who only hear about tsunamis, and use them as a metaphor, and aren't living in any danger of being killed in a tsunami?
If that were my name I think I'd hesitate to introduce myself with it. What if the person I'm meeting lost their family in a disaster?
It's sorta like being named Tornado. Seems cheesy, like a quasi-superhero name; and also insular, rube style, only cool in some places, embarrassing in others.
