I like it, but I do prefer Melissa.

I love it. it makes me think of my favorite name, Belizameth. (It's not a real name, but it was the nickname of a waitress I once met.) If it's pronounced MELL-iss, it sounds too close to malice, but if meh-LISS or meh-LEES, then it's fine.

I find names ending in -is unattractive. Doris, Janice, Clarice, Gladys ... and now Melis. No. I far prefer Melissa, though not enough to use it except possibly as a more up-to-date version of Deborah. Apart from which, it's uncomfortably close to 'malice'.

In fairness, I'm extremely fond of Alice and would happily use it. Can't explain!
