[Opinions] Re: Adonis
in reply to a message by Snapdragon
I looked it up a few years ago, and it seemed like it was being used (at least at first) primarily by Hispanics, along with Adonai. So yeah, could still be hard to live up to in that context but just kind of in the way Jesus or Salvador would be.
It reminds me of names like Romeo, Dante, Paris, classical and cliche-romantic...I don't hate any of those names, though. I like the sound of Adonis, and overall would prefer it to Don or Donny. Pretty sure if I knew an Adonis or 3, the myth reference wouldn't be on my mind (it's not commonly mentioned anyway), although if it were my name, the mythic connection to anemones could seem cool + the older story's a bit like Persephone in a way (and Persephone seems fine though dramatic) or Shepherd even.

That makes a LOT of sense. Similar to Messiah. I didn't know that Drake's son was also Adonis, that explains things as well.
I actually had to look up the myth, I wasn't familiar with it.
Thank you for the info!
