[Opinions] Mortimer…too gloomy?

Great name for a puppy.
I love Cary Grant, but I've never seen this movie, I love the title!
I find the MORT part is off putting. Mort is French for death. It makes me think of this elderly lady I knew whose name was Tod (death in German). Her people were a bad lot in the WWII, I wonder if that's why it was her name.

I love Mortimer. Timmy works as an unusual nickname. You could also use Ori.

I love that movie, it was my only association for that name for a long time. Like it in full, do not like it shortened.
Moritmer Mouse aka Micky Mouse
then again I was raised in Central Florida, maybe that's not general knowledge lol

I find Mortimer gloomy, macabre, the perfect name for a fictional ghoulish mortician. It is a bit... mortifying, yeah. Too much to use, IMO. I prefer Mordecai (though it's still a bit macabre).
Morty is ghastly. Tim is like, okay I guess.
Mortimer Auberon
Mortimer Bertram
Mortimer Constantine
Mortimer Horatio
Mortimer Nero
Mortimer Oberon
Mortimer Quentin

Mordecai is also on my list! I do think it would be more useable.
Thanks for the ideas!

Yes! That’s what I was thinking, a little Mortimer would be so sweet!
I do really like Morrie, more than Morty certainly. I also like Mo :)
I hope you do watch the movie! It’s one of my faves and now is the perfect season to watch it :))

It's not gloomy to me at all. I find it delightfully poncy in the vein of Algernon and Marmaduke.
My reaction isn't that Mortimer is "gloomy" but that it is cartoonish. My main association is to Mortimer Snerd, one of the character puppets made famous by ventriloquist Edgar Bergen:

There is also a Disney character called Mortimer Mouse. Though he doesn't show up very often, he is a sleazy rival of Mickey's:
