I have a brother-in-law named Caleb, which I'm sure I've mentioned previously on here. So far he is the only one with the name I have ever come across and is the father to 3 of my young nieces, so natural the association that I have with him is quite strong. I've always enjoyed the name Caleb and find it to be rather handsome and overall decent. A strong classic name as well that's familiar yet slightly underused.
I originally named a character of mine this long before ever meeting him, but knew I had to change it. Nothing against him, it just would have been too weird. 😆

I am pretty sure I've only met one Caleb in real life, in a poetry workshop I took in 1993. The patriarch in the teen soap opera The O.C. was named Caleb, but mostly went by Cal. I give it 6 out of 10 stars. I like it, but not so much that I would use it.

I just think of the character in Catch 22, whose mother wanted to name him Caleb. The father, ln Major, lied to her and named him Major, which was only discovered when he went to school and gave him an identity crisis. Then, in the Army, he proved to be a brilliant soldier but never rose above the rank of, yes, Major because the brass were so delighted to have a Major Major Major ... I suppose Caleb isn't too bad. I've never met one.

I just can't warm up to it. Every time I pronounce Caleb it gets lost in my nose and comes out like I've got a sinus problem. Like how when you have a stuffy nose, instead of saying 'I'm sorry' it comes out as 'I'b sorry'.
It's a very nasal name for me, it gets stuck in my palette and doesn't flow well from my mouth. There's a small hitch in it.

It's fine, but I can't bring myself to like this name because I've never met a nice Caleb.
