[Opinions] Re: Alexandra v. Katherine
Alexandra.Because I've met a zillion people named Katherine / Catherine / Kathryn in my life. All of them nicknamed (one tried not to be, but gave up). If you count all the spellings it's more overused than Elizabeth, and has taken on the same colorless, conformist, forgettable aspect for me. Which it wouldn't have, if its usage looked more like Alexandra's, so my bias is mainly caused by my exposure to its usage, not my opinion of the name itself. Katherine, Karen, and all the K*r*n* names like Christina are close fashion-cousins in my mind, based on my experience of meeting people named them, so Katherine also seems "older" to me, than Alexandra or other 90s-popular names like Hannah or Samantha.Alexandra seems relatively distinctive imo, and while it was overused for about five years in the US, the number of Alexandras was still swamped by the number of K/Catherines and Katies. Both names seem extremely reputable though!- mirfak
