It's beautiful, but I think it would be confusing for many. I know quite a few people who struggle with this word - I guess in a way it's kind of archaic and they prefer "persistence". I've heard people say it "per-suh-VEER-ince", "per-SEV-er-ance", and even like "pruh-ZUR-vance". But still, I like it. I like unusual virtue names and even some neo-virtue names, like Reverie, Journey, True and that sort of thing.
More "Classic" virtue names I like:Mercy
Grace
Honor, Honora
Faith
Hope
Charity
Patience
Prudence
Felicity?
Temperance
Merit
Constance
Joy
Amity in theory (it's not as pretty in my accent)
Blythe
Harmony (though I find this one more dark and ironic for some reason - most virtue names have a bitter ironic edge to them, but for whatever reason Harmony is the queen of this)Unity in theory
Verity in theory

I love it. I have a soft spot for rare virtue names. Some of my favorites are Modest, Prosper, Promise, Prudence, Constance, Bright & True.

How does she pronounce it - perseVERance, or perSEVerance? I prefer the sound of perSEVerance, but as a name it's too long and clunky.I'd prefer Clemency, or Sophia, or Felicity, or Anne, but not Grace.

I like it. It's a solid virtue name, a vigorous reminder not to give up and to keep following your dreams. You can get the nickname Percy out of it, which comes across, to me, as casually regal. Maybe it is a bit Puritanical, like Wraith said, but it's not extremely long and not terribly hard to spell.

I can't say I like it, even though virtue names intrigue me. I prefer Providence

Perseverance is my mom's trail name (aka wordy nickname; they're a thing in hiker culture - mine is Mosey). It's ok. It kind of sounds like Persephone, Terrance, Stevie, Vera, Prudence, Severine to me, which is an interesting combo of vibes: strict, geeky, quaint, resourceful, enterprising? Something like that. It's not a name I'd consider for real because I don't like the Persev sound much, but I do think it's usable for other people. Some virtue type names I feel mostly positive towards right now: Honesty, Ruth, Devotion, Patience, Honor, Knowledge, Harmony, Epiphany, Loveday, Prosper, Promise, Temperance, Hope, Mercy, Sincerity, Earnest.
