I took a look at Oscar's popularity and was surprised. It's consistently charted for the past 100 years, and it's ranked in the 100 & 200s since the 1970s. IN 2005 it was at 117.
I've definitely bumped into a few Oscars. My daughter attends school with one, and there was an Oscar at her previous school. In the early 2000s I noticed several little Oscars in DC.
I think it's a good name, with a neat history. Is it really still tied to Oscar the Grouch?

Oscar sounds intelligent and advanced, kind of nerdy. The Grouch can't ruin a name. He's a beloved character anyway.

I’m actually surprised Oscar hasn’t gotten more popular in the last few years. I heard a mom calling for her kid Oscar a few months ago. It feels very on trend to me.
I went to school with three Oscar’s, one was white/American and the other two were from Mexico and El Salvador. I think it’s probably been more consistently popular in Spanish speaking communities and less so in white American ones.
I really like Oscar, to the point of hoping it doesn’t get mega popular because I’d want to consider using it for a boy if I ever have one.

I've met some kids named Oscar and like I said before, it was the name of my dad's friend. He was a good guy, they had been friends since they were kids together.
I personally don't care for the name. I keep hearing "scar", even though it's not quite pronounced that way. It just isn't one of my favorites.

Makes me think of Oscar Mayer, which is not in any way a negative thing. I love meat. I’m actually a borderline carnivore. Every time the name “Oscar” graces my ears, vivid images of sparkling bacon and shimmering turkey leap across my mind’s eye. I… love… meat.
It's okay. I prefer nn Ozzie or Oz better though. And honestly I don't think of Oscar the Grouch at all - it wasn't even the first thing that came to mind. Is that really an association? Crazy it would be--I didn't think a kid would be bullied for that, if they do shame on the bully. It's a great name to use.

I like it a lot. Handsome name. It is on my shortlist for boys, and my SO is concerned about the grouch association. He think he'll get bullied for it. I don't think he will with the amount of little Oscars running around at the moment. I will see if I can win him over.
No kids won't bully him re Oscar, as you said so many of them around. I work at a school and the names kids have issues with are creative spelling, object and noun names

It is, but I also think of the company Oscar Mayer and of the 19th century writer Oscar Wilde. I wouldn't use the name myself but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. It's a much better and more usable name than compared to say, Grover or Elmo.
Oscar has multiple associations, so I think it would be ok to use.

I do still think of the grouch but I have also known people and cats with the name Oscar so it doesn’t put me off.
I still think of Grouch and odd couple but that doesn't put me off the name
