[Opinions] Help! 8 Goldendoodle pups!
So my Standard Poodle had a litter of eight Goldendoodle pups, now three weeks old, and naturally I’ve been having so much fun naming them! But also a little overwhelmed because 8 is a lot of puppies to name and I have more experience naming kittens vs puppies…! Another reason I’m struggling naming is becoming apparently I don’t like ‘dog names’, things like Bolt, Max, Coco- they just don’t appeal to me idkw (btw the mama is Aurora & my other dog is Luna; I also have a cat Augusta). I would love some feedback and suggestions on the names I’ve chosen so far! And if you met a dog with any of these names would you think they were cute or…weird? The four names I AM really and totally in love with (the first two were chosen within day one):
#1 Ferdinand nn Ferdy- he’s the largest of the litter and a gentle giant (yes, like the bull), it simply IS his name!
#2 Leopold- he’s the palest of the litter, cream while the rest are gold-red, and I think it brings out his elegant Poodle side lol. It is a bit ‘much’ for a dog but he pulls it off well ;)
#3 Francine nn Frankie- Ok, this one is VERY much inline with my love for ‘grandma’ names, but it randomly came to me and I swear she is the Frankiest Frankie ever!
#4 Clementine nn Clemmy- I settled on this name only yesterday, it was perfect for her! She’s the reddest one & full of attitude- growling is her favorite hobby :DThe others I’ve chosen but am not 100% sold on:
#5 Hank or Percival nn Percy- which do you think is better?
#6 Gilbert- lol I won’t be surprised if nobody likes this one, I’m not even sure if I do, that’s why I need help!
#7 Wilfred- this one I think is really cute
#8 Lemon- the last (and 3rd) girl, she’s the second palest puppy, yellowish cream, and very sweet, but do you think Lemon is a good dog name? I can’t decide. Anyway, thanks for reading all that and thanks in advance for any advice!!

The first four are delightful!I'd like Percival, nn Percy. Hank is too ordinary for a Goldendoodle.
Gilbert ... Gilbert and Sullivan; Gilbert O'Sullivan; Anne of Green Gables ... I think it's fine. They're all positive associations.
Wilfred. Woofy Wilfred. Oh yesss ...
Lemon doesn't do it for me, I'm afraid. What about Blondie? (I can't remember the name of the comic strip dog)
Thanks for the feedback! I think you might be right about Hank not suiting a Goldendoodle…it just felt off to me but I wasn’t sure why. Blondie is cute and it reminds me of Rapunzel!
I think 6 and 7 work well, for 5 gotta go with Percival/Parsifal, and for 8 would suggest Jonquil, a yellow flower and gp name.Alternately; Enoch, Knute, Humphrey, Oralia
Oh Jonquil (nn Jonny?!) is really sweet, and would fit her yellow color well!I did consider Humphrey early on, it’s kind of ugly-cute lol.
Congratulations on your pups!
Boy names to go with Ferdie, Leopold
Wilbur "Willie", Theodore "Teddy", Marvin "Vinny", Howard "Howie"Girl names to go with Clemmy, Frankie that mean gold, yellow, or pale.Gilda - Gilly
Marigold - Goldie
Topaz
Maize - Maisie
Dovie
Citron - Ronnie
Citrine - Triny
Fiona - Fifi
Wilbur was one I considered as an alternative to Wilfred, I love both! I really like the nn Vinny, I wouldn’t have thought of using Melvin as a fn, I really like it!Gilda, so cute! Marigold I thought about too, it’s perfect for a Goldendoodle! Fiona is great too!Thank you!
Your taste in dog names is so cute~ Love your choices so far
I think Hank really suits a doodle (especially a brown one), and I like Gilbert, though it feels more like a cat name.
Lemon seems a bit unappealing (sour and tart), I’d substitute it for Suzette (like crepes Suzette).Other ideas:
MauriceMo
Bastian
Rupert (such a teddy bear name it works perfectly!)
DorothyDottie
Blossom
Maple
I really like Suzette and the nn Suzy! And I like Bastian or Sebastian even, it goes well with Ferdinand. Maple and Blossom are adorable too.
Thank you for the great suggestions!
Of the names you've listed that "go the best" with the rest of the litter: - Percival nn Percy
- Wilfred nn Willa (Willa because you've already have Ferdy and don't want to keep mixing up Freddie or Ferdy)
Suggestions that would fit:Boys:
- Quincey nn Quinn
- Theodore nn Teddy or Theo
- Laurence nn Lance or Laurie
- Lucian / Lucius nn LukeGirls:
- Marigold nn Mari or Goldie/Golda
- Genevieve nn Ginny
- Marguerite nn Margot
I immediately added Laurence nn Laurie to the list! It’s one of my all time favs, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before!
I also really like Genevieve!
Good point about Freddie and Ferdy- if I do stick with Wilfred I’ll probably use Wilf or Wilfie. Thanks a bunch!
Dogs names don't have to be totally different from cat names (Zeus and Pluto are a couple classic ones, for example, and I can easily see something like Odin, Thor, Nike as a dog name). I don't necessarily think they have to be short either, just distinctive or easy to call/respond to. I worked with a bunch of maremmas that had names like Gladiola, Fig Cookie, Brando, Zen...and the 1st two weren't problematically long.My favorites are Gilbert and Lemon. Not having been around her (and though I don't think you need to change it), the 1st thing I thought of as an alternative name for Lemon was Zita. Wilfred reminds me of that weird Elijah Wood show in which a person pretends to be a dog? Or is a dog? Named Wilfred. I'd pick Hank over Percy but that's mainly to set it apart from Clemmy, Frankie, Ferdy, but then, it sounds a bit like Frankie. What about, idk, Hendrix? Basil? Horatio? Ludovic? Gawain? Jacques? Earnest? Prospero? Mars? Johan? Duncan? Roland? Rodrigo? Gerard? Wulfric? Waldo? Vivaldi?

Ooh Gladiola is gorgeous for a dog! And I know your right, dog & cat names don’t have to be different, it’s just in my head lol. The meaning of Zita is so perfect
Are you keeping them all or selling them?
We’re selling! Ten dogs would be an insane amount haha
Cute! I love these names!I think Percy is better than Hank. Both are very cute though, I see the dilemma. But personally speaking, I love having a pet name that ends in a vowel. If his name was Hank I'd call him "Hankie" which is not as cute as Percy.I love Gilbert for a dog, are you kidding? Gilby! Bertie! Gilly! All great choices.Wilfred is adorable.Lemon is nice... but next to her siblings it feels a little random. Everyone else has such stately people names and then there's poor little Lemon. Since "lemon" is also a term for something that is no good or defective, I'd pick something else. I know it doesn't matter, they are dogs, but still. What about...Adelaide? That name always makes me think of lemons (in a good way).
Gladys
Lulu (like Lulu Lemon)
Lillian "Lillie"
MimiOr if you want to use a non-human name, maybe something with nicer connotations, likeDaffodil
Buttercup
Shortbread
Meringue
Ooh I hadn’t thought of using Gilby & Gilly as nn for Gilbert, I love that! And now that I’m thinking about it, Gibbs would be a a cute nn too! I think you just figured out why I don’t like Lemon, it’s quite different compared to her siblings- I like your suggestion of Lulu (it could honor her ‘Auntie’ Luna!) but I would like a longer form…Louise maybe? Thanks so much!!
Dessert names are funny for dogs. Eclair or Tiramisu might work.
