Ermelinda sounds witch-like and too old IMO, the "erm" is not pleasant. Melinda is a favorite of mine.

Thank you for your comments.

Don't like either. Melinda is bland and saccharine and risks being shortened to dreadful Mindy. Ermelinda is what you call Melinda when you're not sure you can remember her name. Er- Melinda?

I like Melinda and Mindy, although I would not nickname a Melinda Mindy unless they asked. I would be more likely to use Mel, Melly or Lindy. I do think "Er" makes it "dreadful", though.

Ermelinda is great. It makes me think of "Ur-melinda". Like, the first Melinda, the earliest most ancient Melinda, from whence all Melindas originate. I like Melinda a lot. I knew a very unique, artistic one in high school. She was a gentle but eccentric soul, so Melinda has that same gentle-but-wacky spirit.

I love its hopeless, unwieldy majesty. Melinda is lovely in a totally divergent way: approachable, friendly, bookish, dependable.

Don't like Ermelinda. Like Melinda though

Definitely interesting though I couldn’t use it. Ermengarde and Ermintrude are better known here thanks to a tv series from I think the 1960s called The Magic Roundabout. I’ve just checked and it was 1965-1977.Melinda is okay but for me still heavily associated with The Ghos Whisperer tv series.
