[Opinions] Re: Evangeline / Eva
I'm a bit confused here. I had an aunt named Eva. Just that, and no mn. I asked my grandmother why they chose it, and she said, Because she was our first child, and because it has no nickname. (Gran was Florence, called Florrie and Flo, so one sees her point.) With that, Auntie came into the room and offered to make tea; and Gran said 'Oh, thank you, Eve' without thinking. Me, I much prefer Eve and would consider using it, or perhaps Evelyn, but not Evangeline. My mother had an Evangeline friend whose nn was Vangie; that would put any thinking person off it for life, IMO. As for names with a message, my daughter (and my mother; also my Gran's mn) is Beatrice; she loves travel and makes people happy every day, so she gets it both ways.
