[Opinions] Amaryllis
Just stumbled across this. It has a pretty meaning. Does it sound name-y enough?

"Amarillo" comes to mind...

I love Amaryllis. Definitely usable.

I don't enjoy the ONE-two-THREE-four rhythm: same issues with, eg, Isabella. It wouldn't last as a fn; not sure how it would be nicknameised. It could, to a non-English speaker, suggest something like A Mary-Liz, and Mary-Liz would actually be nicer. As for being namey, it's about as namey as Hydrangea or Hibiscus.

For a girl, I think it's about as namey as Marigold, Amara, Iris, Amethyst, plus I associate them a bit with Christmas, so it could seem festive like Holly can.But I was thinking of it as masculine/unisex recently because of another post, and now I kind of love it that way (mostly as a MN). The vibes's like Amari, Amariah, Hollis, Cymbeline, Artemis, Adonis, Amias, Hyacinth, Aloysius, Willis to me as masculine.

I’ve known two girls and a book character named Amaryllis so o think it works!

Wow, two girls? Do you mind saying where you met them?

One went to my school as a little girl and the other I met briefly through a volunteer org.

I think it sounds quite "name-y", but not in a boring way. Amaryllis is very pretty, and would stand out in a crowd, which I think makes sense with its meaning "to sparkle". I think it is quite a treasure.

Yes, very pretty

It’s one of my favorites! I think it definitely sounds like a name, it sort of combines Amy, Mary, Millie & Lilly. Plus the more elaborate flower names are becoming popular again, Marigold, Magnolia & Primrose for example.

I love the name!

I just planted one of these in a pot! They seem like amazingly hardy flowers. The word is beautiful. I stumble over pronunciation a bit (I accidentally say it like "a Mary Liss" pretty often) but I think it could definitely be a name!

I adore it! It's an ancient name, so yes, it sounds like a name...It sounds way more like a name than do Kathryn and Todd.

Gorgeous! Colors trilling, magic escaping my lips... sparkles bursting like a prelude to a truly fine name. Amaryllis is an uncommonly dreamy choice. I do think it a fine choice for everyone, and I may consider it myself.

Yeah, it sounds plenty name-y.
