I like it as Johnathan
because I had it on my boys' list with out last pregnancy to honor my Dad, whose name is simply John, but he has always complained that simply John is too simple. So I wanted to give my son his name and still perk it up as he would wish. Moot point, he's Gideon Brody. But I still prefer Johnathan. I like the name a lot either way. My kid would probably have ended up Jonjon as a baby and John as an adult, in terms of nn's.

Like Jonathan. the meaning is ok. It's not too popular and it's a well known name. I know multiple Jonathans - but some are always called John or nn variant. Has a choice of nns such as Jon / John, Jonny / Johnny, Jonno or simply just Jonathan. Also, I don't pronounce it the way this site says - as with many names. JOH (not JAH), as in "JOHN-a-thn", and with no 'a' really pronounced at the end, which is probably more just an Australian accent thing.

I like it, but personally prefer just John.
