It's a common combination name in South Africa, typically derived from grandmothers named Esmee and a version of Marie. Around here it has a late 80s/early 90s vibe. I associate it with mid- to late-30s receptionists at the doctors office. Nothing wrong with it, it's just very generic to me... and a bit of a "compromise" name. I'm not sure if it's a global practice, but combining the husband and wife's mothers' names was (and still is) a popular naming mechanism in Afrikaans. I personally hate it :') As for middle names, typically the point of a combo name is to avoid using a middle, so I can't think of any.
