Help[Opinions] Small Collection newspaper/online
Two names from the newspaper this week and one from a parenting site. Two of women have had their name choice called CHAV (Council House and Violent). I guess the closest American equivalent would be calling it trailer trash. The third asked is my daughters name chav? I am not a big fan of any of the names but I do think the description given was too harsh. Ellie-May I like the names separately just not together with a hyphen as around 10-15 years ago hyphenated names became very popular here. WDYT?

Chav isn’t an acronym - the term existed long before council housing did!

I had no idea that chav was an acronym. I'd always heard it was a dig at Romani people!
If we step back a bit, the names strike me as more trendy than trashy. Snow, Elae, and Ellie-May are not really that bad. Snow White as a double name is....a lot, but even then, I would think "oh, a child of a Disney Adult" which does not have low-income delinquent connotations to me at all. Ellie-May is hillbilly cute, very un-chavlike. And Elae just fits in with all the other creative spellings - unless you specify "as in L.A. the city" every time you say the name, which is pretty silly.

It isn’t an acronym - that explanation for it is a “backronym”!
I think Ellie-May is quite cute.
For Elae, the pronunciation is very strange but the name itself seems alright to me.
