I understand your frustrations, but this wouldn't be a simple change.
Different languages alphabetize in different ways. Vietnamese orders one way, Swedish another, Spanish another, etc. Often the search results include names from a variety of languages -- which one would I use? I could conceivably order differently depending on whether the search is limited to a single language, but this would be complex. Alternatively, I could allow the user to specify their preferred sorting strategy in a setting, but then search results wouldn't look the same for every user and therefore wouldn't be cacheable (meaning searches would become slower).
