[Opinions] Re: Opions on name Oaklynn?
in reply to a message by Pavel
People who comment on names online often dislike trendy/fad names - Oaklynn is trendy because it has risen very fast in popularity, has many spelling varieties, fits into a trending category (tree names), and has a common/boring suffix. When people follow fads it can come across as shallow.
I like Oaklynn. One of the reasons I like it is because it is trendy! I think it is endearing people en masse want to name their kids after oak trees and are tacking on a simple and sweet filler name like Lynn in the process. Oakley / Oaklynn kind of seems like this generation's Ashley / Ashlynn to me.
But some other reasons people might react negatively are...
1. Oak was not previously a common name sound, and it probably reminds people of "okie-dokie" so seems goofy.
2. Oaklynn sounds a lot like Oakland, and Oakland (though positively, associated with hip hop) is notorious for violent crime...at one point the murders per capita were twice the rate of NYC; it's one of the most dangerous cities in the country.
