[Opinions] Chava
This name has quickly been growing on me and I just wondered what everyone else thought of it. (My family doesn't like it) I like the prn. they use in Fiddler on the Roof - hah-vuh. So, WDYT? I will appreciate your feedback._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Reminds me too much of the word 'Chav', but I don't think that's used outside the UK so it wouldn't really be a problem. Otherwise it's ok, but nms

Reminds of "Chav". I would prefer Hava.Love Fiddler On The Roof, though! My favourite name from that film was Tzeitel.

Yeah, Tzeitel is OK. I also LOVE Fiddler on the Roof! A lot of the names in it are rather hard to pronounce, but they're very interesting._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

People can't pronounce it right. It's actually khah-vah, with the kh a throaty-ish sound that doesn't exist in English, and that is a problem. Every other pronounciation for that name sounds bad to me, sorry.I like the name well enough, though.

Yeah, I saw it pronounced like that, but I don't like it that way. Thanks for responding!_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I would also pronounce it "HAH-va." I like it, but it might not be the easiest to live with. Then again, I would name a dd Niamh, so who am I to talk? It's similar to a name I adore: Hadassah. What kind of mn would you use?

I immediately think of "Hava Nagila."Which isn't to say I don't like it. I think it's very pretty--it's simple but elegant, with a nice meaning. I myself would just feel completely inauthentic if I used it, just as I would if I used, say, Ntombi or Jaroslav. I have absolutely no connection to its roots or the culture it's from; it simply wouldn't work for me. But if it works for you? I think it's fantastic.(And I should note that I'm not saying that you absolutely have to be Jewish to use Chava; simply that you should have some sort of emotional connection to the name, which I don't.)Array

Well, Chava is my favorite character in Fiddler on the Roof! I know it sounds Jewish, but I think it's rather pretty. Thanks for commenting!_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

That's a perfectly fair emotional connection, IMO. Whether it "sounds Jewish" doesn't matter to me; Colette "sounds French" and I know plenty of non-French girls by that name. ;) Array

It's okay, not for me but fine for someone else. I think it would be mispronounced by just about everyone though.Kristen~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
