[Facts] Re: Anime/manga names vs. real-life Japanese names
Septapus, this is a really great point! I agree, if it’s clear (or likely from research) that a name was developed for literature or media and hasn’t transferred to people-usage it should be in Popular Culture/Literature or at the very least have Japanese and Popular Culture/Literature both on the listing as categories. Your example of Light is a good one. That’s a pop culture and English word name, not a Japanese one. (Nod to your equally great point though, ClaudiaS, that if Raito it could be a regular Japanese name). The Japanese connection would be best explained in the usage notes and tags. I’d say the same for any lit/media names from any culture. Khaleesi or Sméagol should only be listed as a persons’ names if used by real humans (which it now is and, gosh I hope not, respectively. Let the discussion continue! :)
