[Opinions] Re: My Friend and I Compared Name Lists
in reply to a message by Xena
About your friend's list:
I tend to be fond of word names yet Cache strikes me as silly (like it's trying to be a techier version of Cash? but why lol). Fig seems eccentric, but that one I can get behind. I used to like Cove a lot, but someone here pointed out it was old-fashioned slang for "guy" and that put me off it some.
I like Morning; that's my favorite on the list.
Day and Hayin seem really bland to me in a generic-sound plus surnamey way. I dislike Paul because I've met several and liked none; also it sounds like pall as in funeral pall or dark cloud. Andri sounds just like a suffix to me (as in, misandry); I'd prefer if it were Andrei.
The rest are ok. Cade and Andy seem the most familiar to me maybe. Fields reminds me of Brooks, Banks, Wells - ok except Wells reminds me of Wells Fargo; as a group, they seem more yuppy than I prefer for nature names. I feel a little awkward with Bram; I've never met one and want to make it either Bramble or Brahm(s) in my head.
About your list:
My favorites are Yves, Elias, Hollis. I prefer your list because of those.
I dislike the vibe of Elliott and am bored by Emerson and Ellis. Finch seems weird; I get that it's a bird and surname, but to me it has a strong association with stealing. I dislike the sound of Callum. Cecil I have a negative personal association with.
The others seem ok; I don't have much of an opinion about them. Luca, Victor, Daniel, Ezra are nice/classic/familiar. Oakes seems a little try-hard maybe (like it's so trendy it's probably not an honoring surname yet is self-consciously not Oak or Oakley) but like it does fit in with trends. Jules seems nicknamey but not in an immature way. I'm not a big fan of Clove because I think of cloven; I prefer Clover. Vincent I generally prefer as a middle name. Aleš seems like it'd have pronunciation issues, but people can learn.
Adrian and Cedar seem nice though aren't favs of mine. Roan seems like a horse color to me or else a weird spelling of Rowan.
If I had veto power, ya'll would be left with:
Fig
Fields
Morning
Andy
Cade
Bram
Adrian
Cedar
Yves
Elias
Hollis
Daniel
Luca
Ezra
Micah
Victor
Jules
Everett
Vincent
Aleš
