[Opinions] Names I heard recently
I was talking to a young family at work, and their daughter was named Bronte. I don't love it, I know it's because of the Bronte sisters, it reminds me of bronchitis. Also, my mom was doing reports for kids in her job and she found a girl named Jackson. Absolutely horrid on girls, in my opinion. What do you think?

Jacqueline is the usual way to achieve a daughter known as Jackie. But if you don't like it or can't spell it, no doubt Jackson might work. But it does come across as a very silly use of a male name for a female with a view to showing the middle finger to genderised names or to commemorating a distinguished or beloved family member. I wouldn't touch it for any reason: it would lead to a lifetime of explanations and misunderstandings, and the world is complicated enough already.
I kind of like Bronte. For a girl. It only makes me think of the Bronte sisters, but also slightly of the name Bronwen.
I like it less for a boy. Because Bronte sisters, but also because on a boy the Bron-part makes me think of the word bronco.
It's just my idiosyncratic response.
Jackson on a girl makes me want to laugh, just a little. Like, does there even exist an objectively more masculine, less feminine name than Jackson? Jack (generic term for a man) + son (meaning a male child)? The only reasons to name a girl Jackson would be ...
Nevermind...
If anyone can explain what someone is really thinking when they do this, please do.
By the way if it were just spelled Jaxyn (seems conventionally F) or Jaxen (neutral), I would hardly notice anything odd about it at all.

I do not think surnames belong on humans.

I hate Jackson on a girl, horrid! Bronte I can tolerate. I like the meaning of 'thunder.'
100% agree. I like Bronte for a boy or a girl. It has a great meaning and I like the literary connections.
Jackson, no. Definitely not for a girl and the whole Jaxxxxon craze put me off it for boys as well.

But for a girl?
