I live in the US, and I actually know a Liesl! I had never heard it before I met her, and I really like it. It sounds like a better version of Lisa to me.
The one con is that it's the word "lies" with an l at the end. A person wouldn't notice that unless spelling the name a lot out loud or typing it frequently though.

I first learned of the name Liesel in The Book Thief (love that book). I found Lieselotte after looking up Liesel shortly after. I really love both names.

I prefer Liesl over Liesel. Liesl sounds more mature than Lieselotte to me. Both are gorgeous and I wouldn't blink at seeing / hearing it on a person in an English-speaking country
I've seen both names in use, here in South Africa: we have a small but significant German population, mostly now part of the Afrikaans-speaking community. I like both of them, but wouldn't use them, though I do have a smattering of German, left over from school days.
I love Lieselotte. It seems fine to me, it's a Germanic name and English is a Germanic language, but I've been truly baffled by what people find "strange" on this website. That said, I recently saw a birth announcement for American twins named Senna James (girl) and Lux Jacob (boy) so I'd say, use whatever names you love. Liesel and Lieselotte are established, culturally-rooted names, if Icelynn can make the top 1000, there's nothing wrong with these names.
Liesel Corinne is pretty.
Never met someone with either name but both are lovely!
