I suppose it could come back. I almost see this as a trend name, versus a cyclical classic that may return.
My personal association with the name is the turtle I had for a time growing up that I named Crystal, so I'm not really able to assess on the merits.
I will say that, moreso than most other names that are also words, Crystal became perhaps the name with the most accepted creative spellings. I've encountered so many spellings: Cristal, Krystal, Krystle, Chrystle, Chrystal... none of them work. If the name is going to be used, then Crystal it should be.
