My sister, cousins, and I used to always fight over who got this name whenever we played pretend. We eventually had to make rules that nobody got to be named Crystal because someone inevitably would always stomp away in a huff when they didn't get it. Crystal was a hot commodity in my childhood, haha.
It's kind of sad that it has developed a reputation as time has gone on. I've commonly heard it being described as "trailer-trash". I don't think Crystal deserves that, it's fairly nice and decent. The sound is modern pretty, and it evokes nice imagery when you think of it innocently and in its geological nature form.
I imagine with all the Krist- names out there, it speeds up a name's demise due to oversaturation (Christina, Krista, Kristen, etc). Crystal may have suffered this. I think it needs time to hibernate for a bit and may see a small surge in another decade or two?
I'm surprised it's no longer in the Top 1000! Dropped off in 2021 and hasn't appeared since. Crystal seems like one of those mainstays that somehow always holds on.
