[Opinions] Clay/Clae
I know a boy named Clay, and I also like the name Clae (prn the same) for a girl. What do you think? I don't know if I personally would use it, but I like them for someone else, or for a character. I welcome all opinions!

I find both ugly, sorry...

I like Clay for a boy. Clae just looks like a misspelling, and does nothing to feminize the name. Therefore, I would not use it on a girl.

I dislike Clay, sorry. I just find it completely un attractive. I think of either and old man or of mud. It would be worse on a girl.~ Arcadia

Clay for a boy is okay, but I've always really really liked Clae for a girl, after reading a book with a character named that.

You must have read that Janette Oke book. That is where I found the name, and the reason I like it, too!

Yup, that's where I heard it! I don't know if you saw my post below about how when I was in Jr. High I "made up" the name Cleia (prn like Clea), but it was because of this name. I was trying to help a friend come up with something different for a book she was trying to write, and I said that I was reading a book with a girl named Clae in it, so we thought awhile and said "hmm, Clae, Clay-uh, how might we spell that?" then took it one step further and said "Clay-uh, Clee-uh" and came up with Cleia! I still like Clae better, but my friend ended up naming her daughter Cleia 8 years later.

How would misspelling a vocabulary word name feminise it? It only makes you look illiterate imo (would you say "Gee, that clae makes really good sculptures!"?).I don't care for Clay on a girl. It sounds quite masculine to me. But it's better than some other male names for girls.Clay for a boy... I'm not crazy about it, but it's OK. It does have a strong sound. I like Clayton better though.Miranda
