I actually babysit for a Serbian family with a daughter named Ljubica. The L is silent. It is pronounced like YOU-beet-tsa.

No offense but...
are you sure it's not you that is missing the (admittedly soft) "l" in the beginning? In most Slavic languages, what you see is what you get -- no silent l's, e's or anything else.
