[Opinions] Re: Hawkeye Matthias sounds fantastic
in reply to a message by Lillian
my assumption that neither Hawkeye Cooper nor Hawkeye Fenimore is on your list *LOL*
You're quite right on that count--I'm afraid that the Leatherstocking Tales haven't inspired me as much as they did Hawkeye Pierce's dad. ;) But Mr. Pierce himself...what an absolutely brilliant character. He just wins, honestly.
Hawkeye Matthias does sound great to me--and it even almost works as a possible-use name, because Matthias is "family" the same way Solveig is. While it hasn't been used in my family tree, as far as I know, it's one that could very well have been chosen by my ancestors. And besides that, I would've been a Matthew if I was a dude, so it's kind of like naming a kid after me. ;)
Hawkeye Dashing~ I don't say "too wordy" much, but I suppose I'm just not into verby words as much (with the exception of Raining). I know Dashing here is meant to be a virtue, but I can only picture Alan Alda running around in the rain, lol.
Hawkeye Dominic~ I like the repeated "aw," but Dominic is a bit too popular for my tastes.
Hawkeye Redmond~ And the Redhawk thing is awesome...or would be, if I didn't think of Tatum O'Neal's half-brother. (This is the problem of being frighteningly well-informed on pop culture; it restricts name usage, hehe.) Much as I love Tatum--good Lord, she's a cool woman--Redmond didn't get the best portrayal in her autobiography. :/
Hawkeye Ridge~ Ridge isn't exactly the sound I'm looking for, I don't think. It's...a tad on the soap opera side, is the problem. And I'm much more for the nighttime dramedy than for the daytime soaps. ;)
Hawkeye Scirocco~ Ooooh. It's blowing like a breeze, I tell you. ;) I like this. It wouldn't pass the real-life use test (namely, is there a family name of some sort in there?), but I like it. And a family name could always be snuck onto the end.
Hawkeye Scott~ Aggh--went to school with a gross Scott. Otherwise, this would be very sharp, I agree.
Hawkeye Scout~ It's dramatic, I'll say that much. :D I'll have to think about it a bit.
Hawkeye Tiberius~ I can only picture James Tiberius "JT" Yorke (how's that for a name?) of Degrassi: The Next Generation when I hear Tiberius, which is completely uncool, I'm afraid. :/ Memories of his penis enhancer will live on in my mind for quite a while, which means that Tiberius is out. A pity, because it's neat.
Apparently, I'm difficult tonight. Any other ideas? ;D

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.

Well, most no one ever borrows my combos. ;) Strange thing--there's not much call for children by name of Thursday Honorah, apparently.
You may have Hawkeye Scirocco (I will merely look at it and sigh happily) and may borrow Matthias Crow (which sits nicely between Crow Jerome and Alphonse Matthias in the lineup in my head) when you wish. And on the off-chance that you somehow have another boy and feel the need to call him Matthias Crow and I have a boy called Matthias Crow...well, they'll have Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and a lot of Texas between them. It'd be safe. ;D (On the whole, I have few reservations on people stealing my names--mostly because no one ever wants to, lol. It's when I can feel that the name might become popular anyway that I get really possessive--thus why I don't like seeing Evening-Hazel-Rosemary-Ruby-etc. mentioned by anyone but me. ;)
Now, to think on these combos.
Hawkeye Beauregard~ Beauregard is very Southern, haha. Dunno how well it'd fit in here in the Great White North, but Hawkeye Beauregard definitely has class. I approve.
Hawkeye Benedict~ It's not a long shot, I'll say that much (Hawkeye Benedict, Solveig Scholastica, b/g twins :D). I like it a great deal.
Hawkeye Edward / Edmund~ Edgar is my favourite of the Ed- names, but Hawkeye Edgar doesn't work so hot for me. These two sound nicer, but I think you might be quite right in not choosing a vowel to start off the middle name.
Hawkeye Gregory~ Gregor is my preferred form of this name, after poor Mr. Samsa of The Metamorphosis. But Hawkeye Gregor's stunted. Gregory is, of course, nice, but it's nice for other people, I think. :D

Wow *smacks self on forehead twice*
Thaddeus is one of my favorites and I failed utterly to bring it forth. *sob* Hawkeye Thaddeus sounds terrific. As does Hawkeye Marcellus, equally much. You sleep well and wake to my approval!
