[Opinions] Forest / Forrest
One more opinion please on a name for today...I was wondering what you think of this name and what spelling you prefer? Could you get past the Forrest Gump association?
Replies
I used to like the name Forrest before the whole "Forrest Gump" association became such a big deal. Forest is over-the-top, imo, unless it's a family name and with that spelling. But I could never use Forrest now, because of Forrest Gump. I find it funny that some people want to use the name because of the movie--when the character clearly states that Nathan B. Forrest is the founder of the KKK. No one should be named Forrest in honor of a character named after the founder of the KKK!

I actually love the Forrest Gump association. For that reason, I'd spell it Forrest. Less like a wood and more like a name.
Plus, Forrest's mom had a good reason for giving him his name:
Forrest: (voice-over) Now, when I was a baby, Momma named me after the great Civil War hero, General Nathan Bedford Forrest... She said we was related to him in some way. And, what he did was, he started up this club called the Ku Klux Klan. They'd all dress up in their robes and their bedsheets and act like a bunch of ghosts or spooks or something. They'd even put bedsheets on their horses and ride around. And anyway, that's how I got my name. Forrest Gump. Momma said that the Forrest part was to remind me that sometimes we all do things that, well, just don't make no sense.

I'd forgotten about that last part, lol. (I hate that movie for some reason, though, so maybe I blocked it out...I realize I'm the only person in the world who hates the movie "Forrest Gump" but anyway....) I still think it's a bad association (Nathan B. Forrest) and a bad idea. :-/
