I love Anchoret. Prefer it over Angharad, though still like it as well.As I understand it, Anchoret is Welsh and means 'greatly loved' or 'beloved' or 'more love' (all pretty much the same) - which is the same as Angharad, of which Anchoret is a variant. I have read, from more realiable sources than 'baby name' websites, that's pronounced more as 'an-hor-et'. Though when it's more obscure names I never truly stop trying to confirm my facts. Ultimately, any name is what you make it; love Anchoret and pronounce it as "anchor-et".

Where did you hear of this name? I'm wondering why there are two feminine, Welsh names that mean beloved that are totally different besides the fact that they start with A. I like Angharad, but I also think Anchoret could grow on me. It obviously reminds me of an anchor, but it also reminds me of a locket like you mentioned in a reply. How is pronounced? Just anchor-ET?When you search Anchoret on Google, it comes up with this: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/dictionaries/difficultwords/data/d0000892.html. It's a synonym of anchorite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchorite). I honestly don't think it's a Welsh name at all.

Lawruh, I think I first heard of this name on this website: http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Anchoret.htmlAbout 1/2 the name websites that I've seen have it. The name also intrigued me. I can't really find any other information on it. if you do a google search and Anchoret and meaning, they all say the same two things
1. it's Welsh and
2. it means beloved.I believe it's pronounced like you guessed: anchor-ET.I know that it's similar to anchorite and then there's the anchor reference, but for some reason I can forgive all that because this name seems really special to me.

Anchoret Coral is nice. And I prefer this to Angharad. Even though it does remind me of a ship's anchor it is in a good way and sounds really nice._________________________________They'll search the buildings, collect gold fillings, wallets, and rings, oh, yeah.
But Miss Black Eyeliner, you'd look finer with each day in hiding, oh yeah.
