[Opinions] Judy
What do you think of Judy? I know a 10 or so year old girl with that name and I find it to be incredibly fresh. Post-modern re-use just makes me quite happy.

I'm not a Judy fan (obviously) and I do find it dated. Having said that, I do think Judith (with or w/o a nick) definitely could work today. There was a Judith/Judy at our pool several years ago. She's about 13 now. Her family has moved to Sweden and believe it or not, I have wondered once or twice how the Swedes have embraced her name! I wonder if older names are all the rage there as well.I visited an interesting website several years ago where people give their impressions of certain names. The general consensus of Judy was that of a secretary yet Judith was viewed as either an attorney or a college professor. And yes, Jude could absolutely work as a nick for Judith/Judy.

I like Judy, but not as a name by itself. It's a lovely spunky nickname for Judith or Jerusha.

Judy was my Aunt Lola's nn. :o) I hope it does make a comeback, as it is a refreshing change from all of the tryndee names with their modern spyllyngks. :o> I'm not so fond of Judith for some reason, but I think Judy can stand as a full name just fine. And on a personal note, glad to see you're posting again...sorry for the trolls. *rolls eyes* Isn't there a way to vaporize them?Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitters and layouts

I like Judith without a nn.

I like itbut I don't quite love it. A friend of mine recently told me that Judith nn Judy would be her first choice for naming a girl, if she were to ever have one someday. I'm really getting into the name Edith, possibly nn Edie, which is along similar lines. I think it's sweet.

I love Judy, and Judith. Would've considered using it if not for the Biblical associations - I'd feel like a hypocrite using a bible name. Silly though that may be.- mirfak

I work with a JudyShe's a lovely person. She colors my perception of the name, of course, but I agree with you. I do think it's time for Judy to come back. :-)~Lillian~

I like it, but only as a nickname for Judith.-- Sarah

Like it, but only as a nn for Judith (which I really like). Judy seems a bit too nickname-y on it's own, IMO.

Im not very fond of it. I dont think its very fresh. I think it is very dated.

I like the name Judy as a nn for either Judith or Jerusha. You're absolutely right about it being incredibly fresh. It's about time Judy came back. :-)

I have a feeling that it soon will be back. :)

I also know a toddler named Ethel, so don't you think that we're at a time of re-use now? I mean, most people are sick and tired of the Madisons, Natalias, Avas, and Aidans.

I've always kind of liked the name Ethel. It's my grandmother's name, so I've thought about using it for one of my daughters. But my grandmother hates it. :-)

Aww, I think that it's beautiful!

Do you think there's hope of redemptionfor Bertha, if Ethel can come back?Mind you, I must admit I find both of them unattractive, but more power to you if you like them.~Lillian~

BerthaI love Bertha said BER-ta. So really... Berta, probably. :-) I'd totally name a hypothetical child Roberta called Berta, if she was receptive to the nickname.

I like Ethel but I don't see hope for Bertha. The name has gained many associations and pop-culture connotations with mean overweight women. This is rather, sad, I think.
I've also noticed that people stay away from "tha" endings.:)
