[Opinions] Percy?
I was browsing through the survey section on this site, and noticed that Percy was among the ten masculine names which have been rated worst. Am I the only one who absolutely adores this name? I think it's both elegant and cute (yet not cutesy), and it reminds me of the hilarious character in 'Scarlet Pimpernel'. I really don't think it deserves to be among the ten worst masculine names. So, WDYT of Percy, either as a full name or as a nn for Percival?

Percy is a good name, but I always associate it with the snobby third-oldest of the Weasleys in Harry Potter. It is an excellent nickname for Percival.

I love it! As well as Percival : )

I don't like it at all. Mainly because I only know the name from fictional characters and those characters are all awful people (as in The Green Mile) or idiots (as in Blackadder). So I would imagine a Percy to be either arrogant or silly or both. Plus I don't like the sound of it.

I love itPercy / Percival has been on my favourites list for a long time, before I started posting definitely and I think it was probably my top boys name (if I'd had a list at the time) and it's still in my top 20.

I like it. I think it sounds like it could be an athlete's name, or a journalist or something - in the 80s I would've said it was fey and childlike but it isn't anymore. At all.- mirfak

I personally don't like it at all. Especially as a nn.

What were the other nine worst?I actually like Percy. I'm not usually a fan of guy names ending the the "Y" sound, but I find Percy intriuging.

I think it's rated so low because of it's Thomas The Tank Engine relations or maybe just because it's outdated and old. As for my personal opinion, I don't think it's that bad. I wouldn't name a kid this though, the only reason being they would get teased alot. No one says you don't have to like it because other people don't!!!

I had a Percy in my class once. He was a very handsome guy from Southafrica. (Brother to Marcus and Rian "ree-ahn")I do like the name. I wouldn't name my son Percy but it's alright.BUT it reminds me off the character in "The Green Mile"...

I, for one, think Percy is great. It reminds me of Percy Weasley, who is one of my favourite characters in Harry Potter, and of Sir Percival. Plus, I love the -cy sound, I think; I also really like Quincy, Stacey, Darcy, and Clancy, etc, etc.I prefer Percy on its own to Percival-nn-Percy. That's mostly because I'm not nearly as fond of Percival--I don't think it has as nice a sound. I do like Parsifal, but I don't know how well that would go over, heh.I'm okay with Percy being one of the ten worst-rated masculine names. There's more for me, then. ;)Array
