Help[Opinions] Trek and Turk
I've recently found that I like the names Trek and Turk (or Turq) for guys. However, it seems to me that either one (in particular, Turq) should be short for something, not a name by itself. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the guy's full first name would be? What do you think about Trek and Turk?

Trek for me is hopeless. I can't think of anything you could use Trek as a nn to. as for Turk...well. my first association is Turkish people. they're not too friendly with my people, and in fact ran a massive genocide (one which they have purged out of their history and deny) in the early 20's attempting to wipe out my people and two other nationalities. needless to say, I don't love them and therefore don't have a good association. the only name I could pull with Turk as a nn for is Attaturk...not sure if you want that one or not.;)

I think Trek would be kind of a cool name. Except for the Star Trek association, which kind of ruins it for me.

Trek - reminds me of Star Trek, and i really dislike Star Trek.
Turk - reminds me of Turkey, and the Elephant on the cartoon Tarzan. Also the Turkish people.

This is going to sound bitchy, but I really don't care right now. Try to take it constructively...

Try Derek instead, since it's visually similar to Trek.
2. And why not name the kid's siblings Canadian, Czech, or French while you're at it? No, Turk is a nationality, not a name.
I can't think of any real names that are similar to Turk at the moment. (Yes, that includes Dakota, Cheyenne, and other Native American tribe names.)
You can't just take random words out a dictionary and use them as names imo.

To which I've got to say Roman. And German. While I don't like Turk, it's not as if other nationalities have never become names.

I like Panda as a nickname for Pandora. I think it has some true possibilities. :)

I never thought of Pandora = Panda, but you're right, it could work.
'Course, Pandora's also a little too out-there for me (along with the whole "releasing all the world's sorrows" Pandora's Box thing...), but let's not quibble over details here. ;-)

Ah... But the myth specifically says the box (actually jar, according to Wikipedia) contained all the world's sorrows. Not "all the world's sorrows and hope". Think about it!

Pandora Nyx. How lovely. How poetic. How utterly Greek.
Not really contributing much to the thread here, but I've heard the Hope part, too. I think Pandora Nyx is a lovely balance of realities. They embody everything that society frowns on, but when you ponder them, they also provide the strength to get through the other things.
What could be more real than sorrow tempered with hope, sadness tempered with joy, and darkness balanced by light?
What are the convulsions of a city in comparison with the insurrections of the soul?

...in the book I'm looking at right now, "Greek Myths", I couldn't help but look it up :-). It says, and I quote: "At last the stream slacked, and Pandora, who had been paralyzed with fear and horror, found strength to shut her box. The only thing left it it now, however, was the one good gift the gods had put in among so many evil ones. This was hope, and since that time the hope that is in a man's heart is the only thing which has made him able to bear the sorrows that Pandora brought upon him."
I guess you can interpret this to say hope could have been unleased as well if Pandora hadn't shut it in, but also that it already resided in the hearts of men. But if they didn't have that hope they weren't gettin any any where else. :-) But, who really knows anyway?

Thats the version that I heard too - that all the evils got released, and that hope was the only thing left in the box when Pandora sealed it again.

I'd have to agree. Every time I've heard the story of Pandora, it always mentioned hope at the end. And also, I just wanted to say that I like the name Pandora. If people can name their daughters Eve, I can name my daughter Pandora. =)

The names are nms, sorry. The only names I could think of are Turkey or Teresky or maybe even Thomas.

I just came up with Teresky becase it is the surname of a doctor who pulled my tooth out once. Not sure if you want to use it still! Let me know :)
