When I took French my teacher called me this sometimes. Then when I took Italian the professor called me Low-ra (Low sounds like when you say "ow!" but with a L).
It's okay if you're french but I wouldn't use it in an English speaking country. I prefer Laura (Lor-a or Law-ra)even over my own name. Lauren is nice but will sound dated one day the way Laurie does now. I have never liked Laurel, Lorraine, Loretta, etc.
