[Facts] Ita / Itka
What's the meaning of the name Ita / Itka / Ite ... that you often see on Polish Jewish women? Or is it the nickname for another name? Which one?
Thank you!

Polish naming sources describe Ita as a variation of Judith (Judyta - yoo-DY-ta, rhymes with Perdita), and give the related German Jutta. This would sound right, don't you think - either it was adoption of the old German Jutta into Yiddish, or a diminutive developed directly from Judith.Sincerely, Rosomaqa
