[Opinions] Maribel
Hi. Could someone tell me how Maribel should be pronounced? It's a Spanish name, but I'm unsure of where the accent should come. And secondly, do you like this name?TIAElla

I've read that Maribel is a contraction of Maria and Isabel, but I don't see why it can't work alone. I pronounce it MAR-ee-bel in Spanish. The way I would normally pronounce it in my everyday life (Southern US) is MARE-a-bel.I've even considered Maribel as a nick for Mary Isobel, so yes, I like it.

I don't know if my pronunciation is correct, but I would say MER-i-bel. I think it's a great name.

I've always said "MAHR-ee-bell" (or MARE-ee-bell, in the case of the little old lady whose mother meant it as a combination of Mary and Belle).I have to admit that I prefer MARE-ee-bell (turns into MARE-ih-bell when I say it quickly), simply because it flows along better in my accent (I'm a lazy Midwesterner, ha). Unfortunately, using that would make people assume that I'm stupid and ignorant (just as Jose "JOHZ" would make people assume I'm ignorant, when I'd be deriving the name for Josiah, sigh).Array
