Help[Opinions] Jadzia and Miral
WDYT? Are they too "Star Trek?" I probably wouldn't use both in a sibset, considering that they ARE both from Star Trek (though from different series). Jadzia is pretty blatantly from ST - she was one of the main characters of Deep Space Nine. Miral is less obviously so; she was the daughter of Tom and B'Elanna, and her name was only mentioned in the last episode of Voyager (at least, to my knowledge).
I really like Jadzia, especially with the nn Jazz. Miral is nice too, but I'd probably put it in the middle name slot, if I used it at all. I've used Jadzia Miral nn Jazz on a character before, but I probably wouldn't put both together on a real kid.
What about combos? Any combo suggestions, using either Jadzia or Miral as either a first or middle name?

Jadzia's fine for a Polish woman, preferably as a nickname for Jadwiga (the Polish form of Hedwig). But for anyone else it's too Star Trek, and even a Pole living here might tire of saying, "No, Jadzia's a Polish name; it's not after Jadzia Dax" all the time. So I'd be wary.
EDIT: For some bizarre reason I forgot Jadzia Dax's name is pronounced way differently than the real-life Polish Jadzia is. The Dax association could be completely avoided if you pronounce Jadzia in the proper Polish manner of yah-ZEE-dah. (I should note here that I don't speak Polish, and have cobbled together that pronunciation from the English Wikipedia page on Polish phonology!)
Miral is definitely too Star Trek, because it doesn't coincide with a real-life human name. But I do think it's a pretty-sounding name, if prone to mispronunciation (it's said meer-AL, more or less). And as a namenerd I really liked that Miral Paris was named after B'Elanna's mother.
And, yes, I am a Trekkie! I've never really liked DS9 or *gasp* TOS though; I'm a Voyager and a TNG fan.

I have always been told that the Polish pronunciation of Jadzia was "YAH-jah".

Until now I've always read Jadzia as a three syllable name, and I don't think it's because of DS9. Jadzia just genuinely looked like a three syllable name to me. *Blushes* But upon reading your post I went back to Wikipedia...
And read there that "dz" together produces the ds sound, as in the English word "woods". So, yes, Jadzia would be a two syllable name.
I shall go slink away now in embarrassment...

I'm not entirely sure I'm pronouncing Jadzia right, either, lol. I've been saying it JAD-zee-ah. I'm going to pick up season one of DS9 from the library in a couple days, and I'll see how they pronounce it.

That's how I've been pronouncing it as well. Let me know when you hear how DS9 pronounces it, and according to Miranda in the message above the Polish pronunciation is completely different from what i'm saying, haha.

According to the site, Jadzia is a form of Jadwiga, which is a form of Hedwig, which has something to do with war. Not the best meaning, unfortunately. But I don't always pay as much attention to meaning as maybe I should....
