[Opinions] Vanilla?
Do you like Vanilla as a name? Or does it sound stupid?
Would you use it on a fictional character?

I actually used this as a name in one of my stories for the mother who was a little crazy...her name was actually Vanilla Bean lol I like it even though it's a little...dumb haha.
As for Vanilla on a girl, I actually kind of like it! Would I use it? No.

I hate this as a name. It sounds too ditzy or sweet, or...edible. Maybe for a character, but I'd feel sorry for a person named this.
I think it sounds silly and it does make me think of the "bland" connotation that array mentioned. I don't necessarily think of sex, but anything can be described as vanilla meaning bland. It sort of like naming your kid beige, on top of the fact that it's an ice cream flavor. This is WAY weird to me.
I think of ice cream. Vanilla Ice was a second though.
Personally all word names especially with a food connection I loathe

I immediately think of sex.
If you say you're rather vanilla, then you're not into kinky stuff.
And...well...I'm cool with sexy names, if they're not over the top. But names that bring to my mind the actual act, rather than just a certain air of sexiness, are not cool in my book.

I need its noises in my ears.

Ditto. And it's slang for plain/boring, too. Not good.
Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words.
Nope. It's a part of the Forbidden Three F's of kinds of word names I absolutely resent - the three f's being Food products, Flavours, and Fabrics (used to be Food products, Fruits, and Fabrics, but I figured 'fruits' goes under food products).
So no Vanilla for me, thanks.

Haha!
I like the "Three F's!" However, I do like Apple, Clementine, and such. So maybe, Foods except Fruits for me?
Flavours I'll go with. Cinnamon, Chocolate, Vanilla, that gets wierd. One of my friend's middle name is Coffee, though! Not that I'd use it, but it's cute, hehe.
And Fabrics... Paisley, Cashmere and Velvet should not be names! Probably not Cotton or Silk either!

"-yet, sadly, accidental rudeness occurs alarmingly often."

What about Argyle?
Had a prof with Argyle as a fn (I've always prn it AR-guy-l and it makes me think of socks, lol), but he prn it AR-juhl. Either way, it's not something I'd advocate naming a child. ;o)

I would normally think the same way about the name Velvet- (or Paisley, Denim ect.)
But my sister-in-law is named Velvet. Her mom got it from the old movie "National Velvet" with Elizabeth Taylor playing the main character whose name is Velvet.
It really fits my sis-in-law well. She makes the name work and I kinda like it now.

I like Clementine, too, but I don't consider it a fruit name because the name isn't derived from the fruit. Apple, however, fails to impress me - though it's certainly better than something like Candy, Cookie, or Paprika in my books. Eatable things as names are just NMS.
How about Taffeta? :)
I also have an affinity for Denim, for some reason--I think it's Cambria's fault. Whoever suggested Marie Denim to me, at least.
Organdy is one I can't get behind, though. ;)

Yeah, it was me. Sorry; it's a preoccupational hazard. :oD
Falling in love with quirky names, that is. The "dark side" of being a namenerd. ;oD

Demin might not be too bad...
There are always exceptions to rules! ; )

There are. Like Satine, which is pretty enough, IMO, despite being a fabric.
I think of Vanilla Ice the rapper
Which perhaps isn't the best thing?
I wouldn't use it for a baby or a fictional character. It does sound silly.

I don't like it as a name. I think it could be used as a nickname for a fictional character.
